Clear Lake State Park to hold New Year’s Day Walk as Part of the National “First Day Hikes” Program
Clear Lake State Park will offer a free, community hike beginning at 10 a.m. on New Year’s Day as part of America's State Parks First Day Hikes program. The First Day Hikes offer individuals and families an opportunity to begin the New Year rejuvenating and connecting with the outdoors by taking a healthy hike on January 1st at a state park close to home. First Day Hikes offer a great way to get outside, exercise, enjoy nature and welcome the New Year with friends and family.
The hike at Clear Lake State Park will begin at 10 a.m. on January 1st. The leisurely one-mile walk will follow along portions of Kelsey Creek, and out to the shoreline of Clear Lake and back to the parking lot. Hikers will experience oak woodlands, willow and cottonwood riparian habitats and a large expansive view of the lake. Hikers may encounter a variety of migrating and resident birds and other wildlife.
The hike should take between 2 and 2½ hrs. Participants are welcome to walk part way and make an early return at their own pace. Because this area is along natural habitat and wildlife, no dogs may be brought on this walk.
Participants should bring water and snacks and binoculars if they have them, and a hat for protection against the weather. Sturdy shoes that can handle a little mud are recommended. Meet at the main Visitor Center parking lot.
Clear Lake State Park is located at 5300 Soda Bay Road, Kelseyville. For more information about the walk, email [email protected]
The event will be cancelled if it is raining.
