CLSPIA Board of Directors members serve at Wildflower Breakfast

In 1983, a small group of local residents interested in the Clear Lake State Park formed a nonprofit tax-exempt organization. They named it the Clear Lake State Park Interpretive Association.  The goal of the Association is to:

• assist the Department of Parks and Recreation in providing public education about the valuable and important natural and cultural resources located in the Clear Lake State Park and the surrounding area

• promote the importance of a strong environmental ethic

• raise funds to promote these goals

The Association maintains a contract with the State of California Parks and Recreation Department to carry out these goals and is regulated by them.

A Board of Directors, which meets monthly, governs the Association.  A general membership meeting is held annually to elect board members and to update members on the goals, accomplishments and business of the organization.

Through annual fund raisers and gift shop sales, the association has funded and continues to fund the creation and upkeep  of the visitor center museum and its unique natural and cultural history exhibits; the association funds the naturalist position and all the interpretive programs.  Recently through a fundraising partnership with the California  state parks, ground breaking has taken place for an outdoor education pavilion.  Fundraising continues in order to provide the pavilion with the necessary scientific and cultural discovery equipment.
